Count this one in the books! Laura Kaeppeler (born 1988) is now the reigning Miss America 2012 winner. Kaeppeler won the pageant yesterday January 14, 2012, representing the state of Wisconsin.
Kaeppeler, who is from Kenosha, Wisconsin, attended St. Joseph High School. She graduated from Carthage College in 2010 with a degree in music.
According to her web site, Laura Kaeppeler, “Miss Wisconsin 2011, is a positive role model, ambassador and spokesperson. She is the founder of Circles of Support. Laura herself, was once the child of an incarcerated parent. She understands the shame, pain and difficulties associated with having a family member in prison. While this was the most painful period of her life, Laura believes it was a blessing in disguise. This adversity has shaped her into a strong, forgiving, and compassionate young woman. Most importantly, Laura is grateful for the opportunity to be a voice for children of incarcerated parents. She has found this cause to be her passion in life and source of inspiration.”
The site goes on to say that, “Laura is a 2010 graduate of Carthage College, Kenosha, Wisconsin. She holds a B.A. in Music with an emphasis in Vocal Performance. During her studies, Laura traveled to Eur
ope for a collegiate choir tour, sang at Carnegie Hall and was a member of the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus. Currently, Laura is the owner of a private music studio and instructor of voice and piano. In the future, Laura plans to pursue a degree in Family and Child Advocacy Law. In January 2012, Laura has the elite opportunity to compete for the title of Miss America, where she will perform Luigi Arditi’s classical aria, Il Bacio.” ….and that she did!
